A Passionate, Agonizing and Extraordinary Life
Circus Theatricals presents ‘Modigliani,’ directed by Elina de Santos,
opening May 12th at the Elephant Theatre in Hollywood
LOS ANGELES, CA. — Amedeo Modigliani's paintings sell for millions and hang in the world's most prestigious museums. Set in Paris in 1916, "Modigliani" reveals the passionate, agonizing and extraordinary life of the man behind the masterpieces. Award-winning director Elina de Santos directs Dennis McIntyre’s “Modigliani,” which plays Thursdays May 12 – June 16 at The Elephant Theatre.
Modigliani is part of Circus Theatricals Spring “Side Show” series, which also includes a one act festival of new plays on Wednesdays, also at the Elephant Theatre.
The role of Modigliani will be played by Robert Cicchini, a long time Circus Theatricals Associate Artist. Besides his long list of stage roles, Cicchini currently has a recurring role on “24,” and has also been seen this season on “Cold Case,” “CSI,” “Six Feet Under,” “Blind Justice,” and "Navy NCIS,” among others.
“There’s been a lot of interest lately in Modigliani and his life and work,” says Circus Theatricals Artistic Director, Jack Stehlin. “But this is a play that we’ve always wanted to do, and we’re excited to have Elina de Santos directing. And, presenting this play as part of our ‘Side Show’ series makes it possible for Bob Cicchini to do it around his busy filming schedule.”
Director Elina de Santos most recently directed for the Pasadena Playhouse production of Vincent in Brixton. Other LA credits include the Pacific Resident Theatre’s Rocket to the Moon (LADCC Nominee for direction 2004), Orpheus Descending, which garnered multiple awards including the top LADCC Awards for performance, direction and production 2003, and Edward Albee’s A Delicate Balance, and for the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble - the LA Premiere and multi-award winning Speed the Plow by David Mamet, Arthur Miller’s All My Sons and a nine month run of Clifford Odets’ Awake and Sing!
The cast of Modiglini includes Robert Cicchini (Modigliani), Thomas Kopache (Cheron), Dylan Kussman (Utrillo), Graham Miller (Sautine), Daniel Nathan Spector (Zbo), and Susan Ziegler (Beatrice).
Design team includes Haibo Yu (set), Leigh Allen (lights), Susan Segal (props), Kitty Rose (costumes)
Jeannine Stehlin (sound). Stage Manager is Brendan Kussman. Producers are Jack Stehlin (Circus Theatricals Artistic Director), and Jeannine Stehlin (Circus Theatricals Producing Director).
