Circus Theatricals announces the cast for The Circle

Circus Theatricals presents the World Premiere of Shem Bitterman’s “The Circle,” opening November 6th at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood

Los Angeles, CA. – Circus Theatricals announces the final cast for the world premiere of Shem Bitterman’s The Circle. The Circle, also directed by Shem Bitterman, opens Saturday November 6th at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood.

In The Circle, a High School boy opens fire on a prayer group, killing two girls. In the aftermath, a grieving father desperately seeks to understand why the boy did it, and why no one prevented it. In his struggle to move on, the father moves from grief, to outrage, to an attempt to rightly place the blame - not only on the young shooter, but on the community that the father feels has let him down.

While The Circle may bring specific High School shootings to mind, Shem Bitterman based his fictitious story on an amalgam of several tragic events in recent years.

The most recent collaboration between Circus Theatricals and Shem Bitterman was the world premiere of The Job, which won the 1998 Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle Ted Schmit Award for "World Premiere of an Outstanding New Play.” The Circus Theatricals production of The Job enjoyed a long award-winning run at the Hudson Guild Theatre in Hollywood, followed by a critically-acclaimed Circus Theatricals production at the WPA in New York.

Artistic Director Jack Stehlin plays the grieving father. The rest of the 27 member cast includes (in alphabetical order) Joe Bays, Yael Berkovich, Robert Cicchini, Trena Custer, Chloe Domont, Francesca Ferrara, Kelly Franett, Colette Freedman, Daniel Gibbons, Jerry Goble, Ian Goldberg, Jim Grollman, Donna Guinan, James Karr, Thomas Kopache, Elizabeth Kouri, Dylan Kussman, Robert Lesco, Eric Pierpoint, Denise Renee, Elise Robertson, Jade Sealey, Michael Steger, Alli Steinberg, Patrick Vest and Susan Ziegler. Assistant Director is Anna Andersen. The producer is Circus Theatricals Producing Director Jeannine Stehlin.

Since 1983, Circus Theatricals has produced over 45 plays in Los Angeles and New York. Most recently, the award-winning company won the 2003 LA Weekly Award for “Best Comedy Ensemble” for its production of Moliere’s Tartuffe at the Odyssey Theatre.
