"God provided the choice. Who provided the weapon?"
A Grieving Father Demands Retribution for the Murder of his Daughter in "The Circle."

Los Angeles, CA. – Circus Theatricals continues its collaboration with award-winning playwright Shem Bitterman with the world premiere of The Circle.  Artistic Director Jack Stehlin will co-direct with Associate Artist Robert Cicchini.  Stehlin and Cicchini will also play pivotal characters in the play.  The Circle opens Saturday November 6th at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood.

In The Circle, a High School boy opens fire on a prayer group, killing two girls. In the aftermath, a grieving father desperately seeks to understand why the boy did it, and who’s really to blame. As he searches for the answers, he finds himself in a struggle for his own survival.

While The Circle may bring specific High School shootings to mind, Shem Bitterman based his fictitious story on an amalgam of several tragic events in recent years.

The most recent collaboration between Circus Theatricals and Shem Bitterman was the world premiere of The Job, which won the 1998 Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle Ted Schmit Award for "World Premiere of an Outstanding New Play.” The Circus Theatricals production of The Job enjoyed a long award-winning run at the Hudson Guild Theatre in Hollywood, and subsequently a critically-acclaimed production at the WPA in New York.

Besides Jack Stehlin and Robert Cicchini, The Circle’s large cast includes members of the Circus Theatricals Studio Ensemble. The producer is Circus Theatricals Producing Director Jeannine Stehlin.
Since 1983, Circus Theatricals has produced over 45 plays in Los Angeles and New York. Most recently, the award-winning company won the 2003 LA Weekly Award for “Best Comedy Ensemble” for its production of Moliere’s Tartuffe at the Odyssey Theatre.
